Why does our Agritourism hotel place Gideons New Testaments in each room and by each bed?
Throughout the twentieth century it was very common to find Gideons bibles placed in hotel rooms. These days the practice has become much more scare, especially post-Covid. Nevertheless, we have kept up this tradition and have no intention of stopping.
Have a look at this film, it will show you why.
And with that in mind, we’d like to give you some more information.
Over the course of more than 120 years, in countries and chains of hotels and motels, hostels and agritourism ranches all over the world, hotel guests have opened up hotel Bibles placed by The Gideons International and found the words of our Lord speaking to them in an hour of need, and while they are far from home and in need of rest. And many of them have gone on to find true rest and a true home in Jesus.
Elena and David are committed Christians – David is a Gideon and Elena a Gideon auxiliary. This is why we place the Bibles, we can also show you an App with Bibles in text and audio in over 1200 languages all for free. It is also why we don’t sell alcohol or tobacco and we won’t be applying for the licences to do so.
It is estimated that about one third of all Bibles printed in the twentieth century were produced by the Gideons. It is a missionary arm for a whole range of Protestant churches which share a set of core beliefs which are indeed acceptable to the majority of churches. Gideons is not itself a Church and to be a Gideon you have to be a member in good standing of a Church.
We are not imposing our faith values on our guests, you are free to ignore the scriptures that are placed. For that matterd you are also free to drink your own alcohol. We drink a little alcohol, it’s not forbidden for Christians in our opinion to drink in moderation, we just don’t trade in it. There is also a smoking area on two outside tables at the front of the house by the pool where you can smoke your own tobacco products. We will not try to engage you in discussion on spiritual matters, but you are welcome should you wish to do so to initiate such conversations. We are happy to share our faith.
If you wish to take your hotel Bible with you when you check-out to read later, that’s OK. We have a good stock of them.
We do not place religious insignia in the premises other than copies of the New Testament. The logo of our business has a slight spiritual significance as there is an echo of the crown of thorns in it and also the three joined leaves of willow might be construed as a symbol of the Holy Trinity. The logo is however not intended to have any use in worship.

None of this implies that folk of another faith or no faith at all are unwelcome here or not equally welcome here. All are welcome and respected. If you have a religion with dietary restrictions we will ensure that your needs are catered for.
